My name is Giuseppe Passucci and I am currently a graduate student at Syracuse University pursuing a doctorate degree in physics. My research interests focus on non-equilibrium soft matter, primarily the study of collective behavior in biological systems. Efforts thus far include the study of self-propelled particle models as a method of investigating collective dynamics, primarily utilizing computational techniques. In order to correlate motile cells with such models, I have developed image processing software in MATLAB to track Golgi bodies (as seen in the figure above), which can serve as one of many intracellular cues to cell polarization. Finally, current efforts are focused on describing cell motion using a Lèvy walk model.
